Air Fryer Fajitas

Making steak fajitas in the air-fryer is a game-changer! It’s so incredibly quick, easy, and results in a dish that’s bursting with flavour. The air fryer seals in the juices from the steak while giving the vegetables a perfectly roasted texture, making this meal a delicious, hassle-free option for dinner. Not only does it retain great flavour, but it also cooks the steak and veggies evenly, ensuring that every bite is as tender and juicy as the last.

For this recipe, my go-to choice of beef is flank steak. It’s so lean yet tender, with just the right amount of fat to keep the meat juicy and flavourful. The air fryer works wonders with flank steak because it cooks it quickly, preserving its moisture and creating a lovely sear. If flank steak isn’t available, skirt steak is an excellent alternative that works just as well. Both cuts have that perfect balance of texture and flavour, making them ideal for fajitas.

What I love about this recipe is how simple and fast it is to prepare. In just ten minutes, you can have a plate of sizzling steak fajitas ready to go. Packed with fresh vegetables like bell peppers, onions, and any other favourites you want to add. The key to making these fajitas stand out is the spicy fajita seasoning, which brings everything together with a burst of bold flavour.

So these air fryer beef fajitas make an easy, delicious meal for a quick weeknight dinner or a fun taco night with family and friends. With fresh ingredients and a spicy kick, this recipe will so quickly become a favourite in your kitchen.

PREP 5 minutes

COOK 10 minutes

SERVES 2 people

KIT you will need an air fryer, paper towel, a mixing bowl and meat thermometer (this is optional)

Ingredients for Air Fryer Fajitas

450g flank steak or skirt steak

1 tablespoon of olive oil

1 teaspoon of chili powder

A teaspoon of cumin

1 teaspoon of paprika

1 teaspoon of garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon of onion powder

1/2 teaspoon of salt (or to taste)

Half a teaspoon of ground black pepper

1 bell pepper, de-seeded and sliced

1 medium brown onion, peeled and sliced

To serve:

Flour or corn tortillas (for serving)

Optional toppings: sour cream, guacamole, salsa, grated cheese, fresh coriander

Method

So start preparing the steak by patting the steak dry with paper towels. Then in a small bowl, mix the chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Rub the steak with olive oil using your hands, then coat it evenly with the spice mixture.

If you prefer you can preheat your air fryer to 200°C for about 5 minutes but this is optional.

Place the seasoned steak in the air fryer basket, leaving the crisper plates in. Set the temperature on your air fryer to 200C and cook for 8 to 10 minutes. Flip your steaks over halfway through for even cooking. For a medium-rare steak, aim for an internal temperature of about 54 to 57°C. Adjust the time for desired doneness.

While the steak is cooking, toss the sliced bell pepper and onion with a little olive oil and a pinch of sea salt and ground black pepper. So after removing the steak from the air fryer drawer, place the peppers and onions in the air fryer basket. Then set the temperature to 200°C and cook for about 5 minutes, shaking halfway through to ensure it cooks evenly.

So after the steak has rested for about 5 minutes, slice it thinly against the grain.

Warm the tortillas in the air fryer or in the microwave. Fill each tortilla with the sliced steak and cooked peppers and onions. Add your favourite toppings such as sour cream, salsa, guacamole, or grated cheese.

Serve and enjoy!

Tips for Air Fryer Fajitas

1. Choose the right cut of steak
Go for a quick-cooking, tender cut like flank, skirt, or sirloin. Slice it thinly against the grain so it stays tender after cooking.

2. Slice everything evenly
Cut your steak and veggies (like peppers and onions) into uniform strips. This helps everything cook at the same rate and prevents burning.

3. Marinate for flavour
So let the steak sit in your marinade for at least 20–30 minutes. A mix of oil, lime juice, garlic, cumin, paprika, and chilli flakes adds loads of flavour.

4. Preheat your air fryer
It is a good idea to pre heat your air fryer to 200°C (390°F) for a couple of minutes. This gives your fajitas a nice sear and reduces cooking time.

5. Don’t overcrowd the basket
Lay the steak and veggies in a single layer to avoid steaming. Cook in batches if needed for crispier edges.

6. Shake or toss halfway through
Give the basket a good shake or stir the ingredients halfway to ensure even cooking and caramelisation.

7. Watch the time
Air fry your meat for 7 to 10 minutes, depending on how thin your steak is. So keep an eye on it as steak can overcook quickly in the air fryer.

8. Rest the steak
So once cooked, let the steak rest for a few minutes before serving. This will help to keep it juicy and flavourful.

9. Serve with warm tortillas
Heat the tortillas separately and load them up with your air fried steak and veg, plus extras like salsa, guac, or sour cream.

10. Add a squeeze of lime
So a fresh squeeze of lime juice at the end brightens all the flavours beautifully.
