Ingredients for air fryer pork steak
Pork steaks, sliced
The juice of 1 lime
1/2 a fresh red chilli, finely chopped
A handful of fresh parsley, finely chopped
Fresh green salad to serve
Method
I started by cutting my pork steak into thin strips, aiming for even thickness so they would cook quickly and evenly in the air fryer. So once sliced, I placed the strips into a large mixing bowl, ready to soak up all the flavours from the marinade.
Next, I finely chopped half a fresh red chilli – enough to add a gentle heat without overpowering the dish. And a handful of fresh parsley for a burst of colour and freshness. Then I squeezed the juice of one lime into the bowl, giving everything a bright, zesty kick. The lime juice also helps to tenderise the pork while adding a subtle tang. I gave the mix a thorough stir, making sure each strip of pork was well coated in the marinade.
I then covered the bowl with cling film and popped it into the fridge for an hour, giving the flavours time to develop and soak in.
After marinating, I placed the pork strips into the air fryer basket, leaving the crisper tray in. Sett the temperature to 195°C and cooked them for around 8 minutes. Turning halfway through to ensure they browned evenly on both sides. Depending on the thickness of your pork, you may need to add a minute or two. Always check that your meat is fully cooked before serving – it should be juicy with no pink remaining.
Once cooked, I let the pork rest for a couple of minutes to keep it tender and juicy.
To serve, I plated the pork with a crisp green salad for something light and refreshing. For a heartier option, air fryer skinny fries make the perfect partner. Whether you go fresh or indulgent, this dish is quick, flavourful, and ideal for weeknight dinners with a twist.
Tips for Air fryer Pork Steak
1. Choose the Right Cut:
Opt for boneless pork shoulder steaks or loin steaks with a bit of marbling. This fat adds flavour and keeps the meat juicy during air frying.
2. Bring to Room Temperature:
Take your pork steaks out of the fridge 20–30 minutes before cooking. This helps them cook evenly and prevents the outside from drying out before the inside is done.
3. Pat Dry and Season Well:
Use a paper towel to blot excess moisture as dry meat crisps better. Season generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, or a BBQ rub. You can also marinate in soy sauce, honey, mustard, or herbs for a flavour boost.
4. Use a Light Oil Spray:
A quick spritz of olive oil or vegetable oil helps enhance browning and prevents sticking without making the steak greasy.
5. Preheat the Air Fryer:
Preheat to 200°C (392°F) for 2–3 minutes. This helps create a beautiful crust on the pork as soon as it hits the basket.
6. Cook in a Single Layer:
Lay the steaks flat in the basket without overlapping. This ensures even cooking and that golden, slightly crispy edge.
7. Flip Halfway Through:
Turn the pork steaks after about 7–8 minutes to get an even sear on both sides. Total cook time is around 14–16 minutes, depending on thickness.
8. Check for Doneness:
Use a meat thermometer! Pork is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 63°C (145°F). Let rest for 3–5 minutes before slicing.
9. Serve It Up:
Pair with air-fried potatoes, roasted veg, apple sauce, or slaw for a delicious, balanced meal.
Air fryer pork steaks are quick, juicy, and full of flavour so perfect for a no-fuss weeknight dinner!
