Air Fryer Chicken Goujons

These fresh chicken goujons (or gujons) are breaded and fried strips of chicken, typically made from boneless chicken breast. They are similar to chicken tenders or chicken fingers but are smaller in size. So you can achieve golden, crispy Chicken Goujons in the air fryer with minimal effort. And using less time and energy than deep frying or pan frying. Another great advantage of cooking chicken goujons in an air fryer is that it requires significantly less oil compared to traditional frying methods.

Learn how to make these crispy chicken goujons are made from scratch entirely in the air fryer. For a healthier and delicious twist on a classic dish. I like to serve mine with a sticky honey mustard sauce for dipping. These air fryer goujons are so easy to make and the whole family will enjoy them!

COOK 8 – 10 minutes

SERVES 2 people

KIT you will need an air fryer and three mixing bowls

Ingredients for air fryer chicken goujons

2 boneless and skinless chicken breasts, sliced

200g of all purpose flour

2 large eggs

250g of breadcrumbs (or panko breadcrumbs work best for extra crunch)

1 teaspoon of garlic powder

A teaspoon of onion powder

1 teaspoon of paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

Olive oil spray (for lightly coating the chicken)

Method

So start by cutting the chicken breasts into thin evenly sized strips about 2 cm wide to create the goujons.

In a shallow bowl, add the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine the dry ingredients.

In another bowl, crack the eggs and whisk them together.

In a third shallow bowl, add the breadcrumbs.

So coat each chicken strip first in the seasoned flour mixture, making sure that it is evenly coated.

Next, dip each piece of chicken into the egg wash, allowing any excess egg to drip off.

Finally, coat the chicken strip with the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure the breadcrumbs stick well.

If you prefer really crispy chicken you can preheat your air fryer to 200°C for around 5 minutes.

Then lightly spray the chicken goujons with olive oil to ensure they get crispy.

So place the chicken strips in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Leave the crisper plates in and make sure the basket is not overcrowded. You may need to do this in batches if you have a smaller air fryer.

Air fry them at 200°C for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through, or until the goujons are golden brown and crispy.

Serve your goujons warm with your favourite dipping sauce like mayonnaise, honey mustard, sweet chilli, BBQ sauce, or ranch dressing.
