Ingredients for air fryer avocado salad

1 avocado, peeled and halved

Panko breadcrumbs

Cherry tomatoes

1 red onion, peeled and sliced

Fresh coriander, chopped

A squeeze of lime.

To serve:

1 red chilli, sliced

Green salad leaves

Method

To begin, I halved a ripe avocado and carefully dipped each half into a bowl of panko breadcrumbs, making sure they were well coated for that perfect crispy finish. Then, I placed them directly into my air fryer basket and cooked them at 200°C for about 10 minutes. The high heat helps create a crunchy coating on the outside, while the avocado stays soft and creamy on the inside – a delicious contrast in textures.

While the avocado was air frying, I prepared a fresh and zesty salsa. In a mixing bowl, I combined chopped cherry tomatoes, finely diced red onion, a handful of freshly chopped coriander, and a generous squeeze of lime juice. This mixture adds a bright, tangy flavour that perfectly complements the richness of the avocado.

Once the avocado halves were cooked and golden, I removed them from the air fryer and spooned the tomato salsa on top. I finished it off with a few thin slices of red chilli for a little heat, then served the whole thing on a bed of crisp salad leaves. The result? A colourful, vibrant dish that looks just as good as it tastes.

This air fried avocado salad is not only incredibly easy to prepare but also packed with nutrients. Avocados are a powerhouse of healthy fats, particularly monounsaturated fats, which are known to support heart and brain health. They’re also high in potassium, fibre, and antioxidants, making them a brilliant choice for anyone looking to eat more mindfully.

Whether you enjoy this dish as a light lunch, a dinner side, or even a satisfying snack, it’s a great way to include more plant-based goodness in your diet. It’s quick, full of flavour, and feels like a little indulgence – without the guilt!

Tips for Air Fryer Avocado Salad

1. Air Fry Complementary Ingredients
While avocado itself isn’t typically air-fried, many ingredients pair beautifully with it and benefit from air frying. Think crispy chickpeas, halloumi, sweet potato cubes, or bacon bits. Toss them in olive oil and your favourite seasoning, then air fry at 180°C (356°F) for 10–15 minutes until crisp and golden.

2. Choose Perfectly Ripe Avocados
For a creamy, buttery texture, use ripe but firm avocados. They should yield slightly to gentle pressure but not feel mushy. Dice or slice just before serving to prevent browning.

3. Use a Variety of Textures
Mix soft, creamy avocado with crunchy air-fried ingredients, fresh greens (like rocket or baby spinach), and crisp vegetables (like cucumber or radish). This keeps each bite interesting.

4. Add a Protein Boost
Grilled or air fried chicken, prawns, tofu, or boiled eggs turn your avocado salad into a satisfying main. Cook proteins ahead of time in the air fryer for an easy meal prep option.

5. Balance the Flavours
Avocado is rich and mild, so pair it with tangy or zesty elements like cherry tomatoes, red onion, feta cheese, or a citrus vinaigrette. Balsamic glaze or lemon juice adds a great acidic contrast.

6. Season Well
Don’t forget salt and pepper as it makes a huge difference. You can also add a sprinkle of chilli flakes, cumin, or smoked paprika for a flavour boost.

7. Dress Just Before Serving
Add the dressing right before serving to keep your greens fresh and prevent everything from going soggy.

This air fryer avocado salad is fresh, nutritious, and endlessly customisable. Perfect for a quick lunch or light dinner that feels gourmet with minimal effort.
