These air fryer salmon skewers are the perfect solution for a quick and delicious midweek meal for two. Not only do they come together in no time, but thanks to the air fryer, they are a healthier option compared to traditional frying methods. Salmon is an excellent source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids, making these skewers a nutritious choice for anyone looking to enjoy a light yet filling meal without compromising on flavour.

The beauty of using the air fryer for this dish is that it cooks the salmon to perfection in just a matter of minutes. The salmon becomes beautifully tender and flaky on the inside, while the outside gets lightly crispy and charred, adding a delightful texture to every bite. The air fryer also requires little to no oil, which significantly reduces the amount of fat in the dish, making it a great option for anyone looking to cut down on excess calories without sacrificing taste.

To make these salmon skewers, simply marinate the salmon chunks in your favourite herbs, spices, or a flavourful sauce for extra depth of flavour. Skewer the pieces onto wooden or metal skewers, and then pop them into the air fryer. In just a few minutes, you’ll have perfectly cooked salmon skewers that are juicy on the inside and perfectly crisped on the outside.

Serve these air fryer salmon skewers with a side of fresh vegetables, rice, or a light salad for a balanced and satisfying meal. Whether you’re looking for a healthy dinner option for two or a meal that’s quick and easy to prepare, these salmon skewers are sure to become a weeknight favourite.

SERVES 2 people

KIT you will need an air-fryer, bowls to shape the tortillas and wooden skewers pre-soaked in water

Ingredients for air fryer salmon skewers

1 tablespoon of Piri Piri seasoning

2 salmon pieces, cut into chunks

1 medium red onion, peeled and sliced

1 pepper, de-seeded and sliced

For the guacamole:

1 ripe avocado, peeled, de-seeded and chopped

A small red onion, peeled and chopped

3 small-medium ripe tomatoes, chopped

Juice of 1 lime

Seasoning

To serve:

2 tortilla wraps

Half an Iceberg lettuce, washed and sliced

1 small can of kidney beans, drained

A small can of sweetcorn, drained

1 fresh red chilli, thinly sliced

A handful of fresh coriander

2 tablespoons of crème fraiche

Method

So start by making your tortilla bowls. Place one wrap at a time into a bowl. But place a smaller bowl on top to stop it moving the fryer! Then cook the tortilla bowl on 180c for 3 minutes. So repeat for the second bowl. And once both are cooked set aside.

So to prepare your kebabs, first cut your salmon into chunks and place into a large bowl. Then de-seed and slice your pepper to the same size and place in the bowl along with your salmon pieces. Then peel and cut your onion into quarters and pop into the mixing bowl.

So drizzle some olive oil over the top of your salmon and veggies and mix together well. Then add in your piri piri seasoning and stir well making sure they are all coated evenly. So next make your kebabs by placing your salmon, pepper and onion onto wooden skewers.

Then cook your skewers on 180c for 12 minutes, or until the salmon starts to crisp at the edges. But remember to turn half way, being careful as the skewers can get hot!

So while your salmon is cooking, you can now prepare your tasty tangy guacamole. And chop your tomatoes and add to a bowl. Chop your onion and add to the same bowl. And peel and deseed your avocado and chop into small pieces. Then squeeze over the lime, season and mix well.

So to finish, place some chopped iceberg lettuce into the bottom of your tortilla bowl, along with your pinto beans and sweetcorn. And add into each bowl, a generous spoonful of your guacamole. So when your salmon has finished cooking, add two skewers to each bowl.

And serve your air fryer salmon skewers with crème fraiche, fresh coriander and chopped chilli’s.

Tips for Air Fryer Salmon Skewers

1. Use Skinless Salmon Fillets
Cut into even-sized cubes (about 1.5 inches). Skinless works best for skewers, ensuring even cooking and easier threading.

2. Marinate for Bold Flavour
Toss salmon in piri piri sauce (store-bought or homemade) and marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours. It tenderises the fish and infuses it with heat and tang.

3. Soak Wooden Skewers
If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 20–30 minutes to prevent burning in the air fryer. Metal skewers also work great.

4. Thread Carefully
Leave a little space between salmon pieces on the skewers so hot air can circulate and cook them evenly.

5. Preheat Your Air Fryer
Preheat to 200°C (390°F) to ensure a quick sear on the outside without drying the fish out.

6. Don’t Overcook!
Salmon cooks fast. Air fry skewers for 7–9 minutes, flipping halfway. It should flake easily but stay moist in the middle.

7. Add Veggies (Optional)
Alternate salmon with chunks of red onion, bell pepper, or courgette for a colourful, complete skewer. Just keep veg size similar to salmon for even cooking.

8. Brush with Extra Sauce Midway
For more flavour and caramelisation, baste with more piri piri sauce halfway through cooking.

9. Rest Before Serving
Let the skewers rest for 1–2 minutes out of the air fryer. It keeps them juicy and lets flavours settle.

10. Serve with Cooling Sides
Pair with couscous, yoghurt dip, herby rice, or a crunchy slaw to balance the heat.
