Ingredients for Air Fryer Frittata

4 large eggs, beaten

6 rashers of pre-cooked bacon

2 slices of ham, chopped

½ a bell pepper, chopped and de-seeded

75g of cheddar cheese, grated

Sea salt and ground back pepper

A hand full of fresh parsley to serve

Method

Start by cracking four fresh eggs into a mixing bowl. Using a fork or whisk, beat the eggs thoroughly until the yolks and whites are fully combined. Whisking until slightly frothy helps incorporate air, giving your frittata a lighter, fluffier texture once cooked.

Now it’s time to add all the delicious mix-ins that make this frittata extra special. Begin by stirring in a generous handful of grated cheddar cheese. This will melt beautifully throughout the eggs, giving a rich, creamy, and cheesy bite in every mouthful.

Next, add some chopped, cooked bacon. Make sure it has cooled slightly before mixing it in, and chop it into small, bite-sized pieces. The bacon adds a savoury, smoky flavour that pairs perfectly with the cheese and eggs. Then, toss in some finely chopped bell pepper. Either red, yellow, or green depending on your taste or what you have on hand. Bell peppers add a crunchy texture and a pop of vibrant colour.

To make the dish even heartier, add chopped ham. You can use leftover roast ham or pre-cooked deli ham. Dice it into small cubes so it blends evenly into the mixture, adding another layer of meaty goodness.

Season the entire mixture well with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, then pour it into a round, non-stick ovenproof dish or a silicone air fryer liner that fits your air fryer basket.

Place the dish into the air fryer basket and set the temperature to 180°C. Cook for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the eggs are completely set and the top is golden brown.

Once cooked, carefully remove the dish from the air fryer. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve with a dollop of mayonnaise or pair it with a crisp side salad for a satisfying lunch.

Tips for Air Fryer Frittata

1. Use an air fryer-safe dish
Choose a round, oven safe dish (like a ceramic or silicone tin) that fits comfortably inside your air fryer basket. Grease it well with butter to prevent sticking.

2. Pre-cook your fillings
Sauté vegetables like onions, peppers, mushrooms, or spinach before adding them to your frittata. This removes any excess moisture and brings out their flavour. Cook bacon or sausage fully beforehand too.

3. Whisk eggs well
Whisk your eggs with a splash of milk or cream for a fluffy texture. Season the mixture with salt, pepper, and herbs like chives, thyme, or parsley.

4. Don’t overfill
Pour the egg mixture into your dish only about two thirds full to allow room for rising during cooking. Overfilling can lead to uneven cooking or spillage.

5. Cook low and slow
Air fry your frittata at a lower temperature (around 160°C or 320°F) for around 12 to 18 minutes, depending on the size and depth of your frittata. This ensures that it cooks through without browning too quickly on top.

6. Check for doneness
The centre should be set and no longer jiggly. You can insert a toothpick and if it comes out clean, then it is ready. If not, give it another 2 to 3 minutes in the air fryer.

7. Rest before serving
Let your frittata rest for 5 minutes after cooking. This helps it firm up and makes slicing cleaner and easier.

8. Make it your own
Try grated cheese, fresh herbs, leftover veg, or smoked salmon – frittatas are so endlessly customisable!
