Air Fryer French Toast

This easy Air Fryer French Toast recipe is the perfect way to enjoy a delicious and comforting cooked breakfast without spending too much time in the kitchen. Made with just a handful of simple ingredients you probably already have on hand. It comes together quickly and it is ready in under 10 minutes. Whether you are preparing a quick weekday breakfast or a laid back weekend brunch. This recipe offers a convenient, mess free option. And with all the classic flavours of traditional French toast.

The air fryer gives the French toast a perfectly crispy exterior while keeping the inside soft and fluffy. So there is no need to stand over a hot frying pan or deal with the excess oil. All you need are a few slices of brioche bread (thick-cut works best), eggs, milk, a touch of vanilla extract, and a sprinkle of cinnamon to bring that warm, sweet flavour we all love. So simply dip the brioche bread in the egg mixture, place it in the air fryer basket, and let it cook for a few minutes on each side. That’s it!

It is a great recipe for busy mornings, and it is kid friendly too. You can top your air fryer French toast with maple syrup, fresh berries, icing sugar, or even a dollop of whipped cream to make it extra special. It is also really easy to customize this dish. Use dairy free milk, gluten-free bread, or add a hint of nutmeg for a different twist.

With its quick prep time, minimal clean up, and delicious results, this Air Fryer French Toast recipe might just become your new go-to breakfast favourite.

KIT you will need an air fryer, a mixing bowl and some baking paper

Ingredients for air fryer French toast

2 slices of brioche loaf

2 large eggs

50g of fresh blueberries

75g of fresh strawberries

1 tsp of icing sugar

Olive oil spray

Method

So start by prepping your workspace to keep things smooth and mess-free. Cut a piece of baking paper to fit neatly inside your air fryer basket. Don’t make it too big or it might interfere with air circulation. Lay it flat on your counter and give it a light spray with olive oil to prevent the French toast from sticking during cooking.

Crack your eggs into a medium sized bowl and whisk them until smooth. Making sure the yolks and whites are fully combined. A thorough whisk gives you that creamy, custardy base essential for delicious French toast. For extra richness, you can even add a splash of milk or a pinch of cinnamon or vanilla extract at this stage if you like.

Now take your brioche slices – thick-cut works best – and gently dip each one into the egg mixture. Make sure both sides are fully soaked but not overly soggy. Let any excess egg drip off before placing the slice carefully onto your oiled baking paper.

So once all your slices are coated and arranged, spray the tops lightly with oil. This extra touch helps the bread crisp up nicely in the air fryer and gives you that perfect golden crispy finish.

Preheat your air fryer to 200°C (392°F) for about 3 minutes. Then carefully transfer the baking paper with the brioche into the basket. Cook at 200°C for around 8 minutes, flipping the slices halfway through to get even browning on both sides.

While your French toast is cooking, get your toppings ready. Slice up fresh strawberries, blueberries, or bananas. Once the toast is beautifully golden and slightly crisp on the edges, serve it warm, topped with fruit and a dusting of icing sugar. For an extra treat, drizzle with maple syrup or a spoonful of Greek yoghurt.

Tips for Air Fryer French Toast

1. Use thick, hearty bread
Opt for thick slices of brioche, sourdough, or Texas toast. Thick bread absorbs the egg mixture without becoming soggy and gives you that perfect golden crunch.

2. Whisk your egg mixture well
To get an even coating, whisk together your eggs, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla until smooth. This ensures the flavours are evenly distributed through every slice.

3. Soak the bread for the right amount of time
Don’t just dip the bread quickly but let it soak for about 10–15 seconds per side. This allows the bread to absorb the egg mixture and results in a custardy interior.

4. Preheat your air fryer
Give your air fryer a 2–3 minute preheat at 180°C (350°F) for a consistent cook that crisps up your French toast perfectly.

5. Place the slices in a single layer
Arrange the soaked bread slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket to allow even cooking. If necessary, cook in batches for the best result.

6. Flip halfway through
To ensure both sides are golden brown, flip your French toast halfway through cooking (around 4 minutes) for an even, crispy exterior.

7. Check for crispness
After about 8–10 minutes, your French toast should be golden and crispy on both sides. Adjust the time if you prefer it softer or extra crispy.

8. Add toppings after cooking
Top your French toast with powdered sugar, maple syrup, berries, or whipped cream. For a twist, try adding nuts, chocolate chips, or even a drizzle of peanut butter!

9. Serve immediately
Air fryer French toast is best served fresh and hot, so enjoy it right out of the air fryer for maximum crunch and flavour.
