Ingredients for air fryer salmon

1 slice of Rye bread

1 salmon fillet

Cream cheese

3 quails eggs

1 lemon, sliced

Vegetable oil spray

A sprig of fresh parsley

Salt and pepper

Method

I started this dish by slicing a crusty baguette into even pieces. I lightly sprayed each side with olive oil spray, then placed them in the air fryer at 200°C for about 3 to 5 minutes. It’s important to turn the slices halfway through cooking and keep an eye on them, as air fryers can vary in how quickly they crisp things up. You’re looking for a beautiful golden-brown toast – crispy on the outside but still tender on the inside.

Next, I prepared the salmon. I laid a few thin lemon slices in the bottom of the air fryer basket, then placed the salmon fillets on top. This not only adds flavour but also helps prevent the salmon from sticking. I set the temperature to 180°C and cooked the salmon for 15 minutes. So It comes out tender, flaky, and infused with a subtle citrus aroma.

While the salmon was cooking, I spread a generous layer of cream cheese over the freshly toasted bread. The warmth of the toast slightly melts the cheese, making it extra creamy and delicious.

For the quail eggs, I scrambled them gently on the stovetop – they cook quickly and add a rich, delicate texture to the plate.

Once everything was ready, I served the air-fried salmon on a plate, topped with a sprinkle of chopped parsley and seasoned with a touch of salt and freshly cracked black pepper. The toast with cream cheese and soft scrambled quail eggs sat beautifully alongside.

So for an extra pop of flavour, you can serve this meal with a cucumber and dill salad or a handful of peppery mixed greens. And if you’re feeling fancy, a drizzle of honey or a sprinkle of smoked paprika over the salmon really elevates the entire dish. Balanced, nourishing, and packed with flavour!

Tips for Air Fryer Salmon

1. Choose Fresh or Frozen Fillets
Use boneless salmon fillets, either fresh or frozen. If using frozen, defrost thoroughly before air frying to ensure even cooking. Pat the fillets dry with paper towel before seasoning.

2. Season Simply but Well
A little olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper go a long way. For extra flavour, try dill, smoked paprika, garlic granules, or a drizzle of soy sauce before cooking.

3. Don’t Overcrowd the Basket
Place the salmon skin-side down in the air fryer basket. Leave space around each piece so the air circulates properly and the fish cooks evenly.

4. Perfect Cooking Time
Air fry at 180°C (356°F) for 8–10 minutes depending on the thickness of the fillet. The salmon should be opaque and flake easily with a fork. Don’t overcook it as salmon dries out quickly.

5. Toast Matters
While the salmon cooks, toast thick slices of sourdough, rye, or wholegrain bread. For added flavour, brush with olive oil or butter and toast in a pan or toaster until golden.

6. Build with Layers
Spread cream cheese, smashed avocado, or herbed yogurt on the toast before adding the salmon. You can also add sliced cucumber, pickled onions, or capers for a fresh contrast.

7. Finish with Flair
Top with fresh herbs like dill or parsley, a squeeze of lemon juice, and cracked black pepper. For a spicy twist, try chilli flakes or hot honey.

8. Serve Immediately
Enjoy while the salmon is warm and the toast is still crisp. It’s perfect for brunch, lunch, or a quick, healthy dinner.

This combo is simple, satisfying, and full of flavour so it’s ideal for a fuss-free yet impressive meal.
