This was my first time making air fryer spring rolls. We always order them as a take away, so I thought why not try them in the air fryer! I’m so happy that I gave them a try as they turned out beautifully. And a much healthier version compared to what we would normally order. These air fried spring rolls are crispy on the outside and packed with a flavourful filling. Making them a perfect appetiser or snack. The combination of the cool, creamy raita and the spicy, sweet chilli jam was absolutely divine and complemented the crispy spring rolls perfectly.
To make your air fried spring rolls even more exciting, you can experiment with different fillings. Try adding some finely chopped mushrooms, bean sprouts, or even some cooked chicken or shrimp for a non-vegetarian version. You can also play around with the spices, perhaps adding a bit of ginger or soy sauce for an extra punch of flavour.
If you’re making these air fryer spring rolls for a gathering, they can be prepared ahead of time. Assemble the rolls and keep them covered in the fridge until you’re ready to cook. This makes them a great option for parties or family dinners where you want to spend more time with your guests and less time in the kitchen.
Ingredients
2 small carrots
1 onion
Handful of cabbage
2 teaspoons of curry powder
1 teaspoon of black mustard seeds
Clove of garlic
1 red chilli
Handful of dried coriander
salt and pepper
Method
I grated 2 small carrots, 1 onion, and thinly sliced a handful of cabbage. Next I added 2 teaspoons of curry powder, a teaspoon of black mustard seeds, a grated clove of garlic, a red chilli, a handful of dried coriander and salt and pepper to taste. Then I combined the mixture into a bowl and left to rest for about an hour for all of the scrummy flavours to infuse. Then I rolled out my filo pastry (shop brought) and cut the sheet in half lengthwise. I popped a spoonful of the mixture at the left hand side of the pastry. Then started rolling tucking in the side as I go. I had a small bowl of water to hand to make to pasty stick. Then I sprayed with oil and popped them into my air fryer in 180c for around 15 minutes. Checking half way.
When ready I carefully lifted out my air fried spring rolls and served with a home riata and chilli jam.
Storing any leftover air fried spring rolls is easy too. Simply pop them in an airtight container and store them in the fridge. To reheat, just place them back in the air fryer for a few minutes to regain their crispiness. They make a great quick snack or lunch the next day.
These air fryer spring rolls are not only tasty but also healthier than the deep-fried version. Air frying reduces the amount of oil needed, making them a guilt-free treat. They are also a fun and interactive dish to make with kids or friends, as everyone can help with the rolling process.
