Method
There’s something so satisfying about making your own pizza from scratch – and with the help of your air fryer, it’s quicker and easier than ever. This spicy air fryer pizza is perfect for lunch, dinner, or a fun family pizza night. With just a handful of basic ingredients, you’ll be enjoying crispy, golden crusts topped with your favourite spicy toppings in no time.
Start by combining strong white bread flour, fast-action dried yeast, a pinch of salt, a drizzle of olive oil, and warm water in a large mixing bowl. Mix everything together with your hands until a rough dough forms. Then knead the dough on a floured surface for around 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Place the dough into a lightly oiled bowl and cover with a damp tea towel. Then let it prove in a warm, dry place for about an hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Once the dough has risen, transfer it to a floured surface and knead briefly to knock out the air. Then divide the dough into two portions and roll out each piece to fit the size of your air fryer basket. Lay each pizza base onto a piece of baking paper.
Spread a thin layer of tomato paste or pizza sauce over the bases and then add your toppings. Think spicy pepperoni, jalapeños, red onions, or chilli flakes. So cheese lovers can add a generous helping of grated mozzarella.
Then carefully place your pizza (on the baking paper) into the air fryer. And cook at 190°C for about 10 minutes, checking halfway through. Cooking times may vary depending on your air fryer model, so keep an eye on it.
Then serve hot, crispy, and packed with flavour – the perfect homemade treat any night of the week!
Tips for Air Fryer Spicy Pizza
1. Use ready-made or homemade bases
Tortilla wraps, naan, pita, or pre-made pizza bases all work well in the air fryer. They cook quickly and crisp up beautifully.
2. Keep it size-appropriate
Make sure your base fits comfortably inside the air fryer basket. If it’s too large, trim the edges or use mini bases.
3. Preheat your air fryer
Set your air fryer temperature to 200°C (392°F) for 2 to 3 minutes. This helps the base start crisping right away and gives a more even cook.
4. Don’t overload with sauce
A thin layer of tomato or spicy pizza sauce is best. Too much can make the base soggy and harder to cook evenly.
5. Go bold with toppings
Think spicy pepperoni, jalapeños, red chilli flakes, hot honey, or even spicy sausage. Add red onion or peppers for balance and texture.
6. Add cheese generously
Mozzarella melts best, but try spicy cheddar or a mix of cheeses for extra kick. Sprinkle over the toppings to hold everything in place.
7. Cook in stages if needed
If using raw meat or thick toppings, pre-cook them slightly before adding to your pizza. This ensures they cook through in the short air fry time.
8. Watch closely
Air fryer pizzas cook fast – usually in just 6 to 8 minutes. Check around the 5 minute mark. The cheese should be melted and bubbly, and the edges golden.
9. Finish with flair
Top your pizza with fresh basil, chilli oil, or a drizzle of hot sauce after cooking for that final spicy hit.
Serve hot with a simple salad or garlic dip – it’s your pizza night, turned up a notch!
