Air Fryer Sausages

So when it comes to quick, fuss-free meals, cooking sausages in the air fryer is an absolute game changer. Whether you are whipping up a full English breakfast, preparing an easy weeknight dinner, or meal prepping for the week ahead, using the air fryer delivers perfectly browned, juicy sausages every single time in under 15 minutes. What’s more, there is no need to flip pans, no messy oil splatter, and barely any washing up afterwards. This makes it one of the most convenient cooking methods out there.

One of the biggest perks of air frying sausages is how evenly they cook when air fried. So the hot circulating air crisps the sausage skin to golden perfection. All the while keeping the inside juicy and tender. This convenient method works brilliantly with any type of sausage. From classic pork sausages, chipolatas and Cumberland rings to chicken, beef, turkey, plant-based, or veggie varieties. So, whether you are a meat lover or looking for a vegetarian alternative, the air fryer handles it all with ease.

For an extra flavour boost, why not try adding sliced peppers, onions, or mushrooms right alongside your sausages. The air fryer roasts these perfectly too, creating a simple yet satisfying all-in-one meal without extra pans or prep time. Plus, you can season the veggies with your favourite herbs or spices before cooking to tailor the flavours to your taste.

Are you ready to make sausages your new go-to air fryer staple? It is quick, easy, and always delicious. Simply preheat your air fryer, pop in the sausages, and set the timer for 12 to 15 minutes, shaking or turning them halfway through cooking for the best results.

KIT you will need an air fryer

Ingredients for Air Fryer Sausages

6 sausages (pork, chicken, veggie, or your favourite variety)

Optional: a little oil spray (for leaner sausages or plant-based options)

Optional: mustard, ketchup, or sides of your choice

Method

Start by preheating your air fryer to 180°C (356°F) for at least 2 to 3 minutes. This short preheating period is not essential but it will ensure that your sausages start crisping up as soon as they hit the basket, helping to develop that delicious golden-brown exterior we all love.

Next, arrange the sausages in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Leave the crisper trays in the bottom of the basket. And make sure to leave a little space between each one as crowding the basket can cause uneven cooking and prevent the skins from getting nice and crispy. One important tip: there is no need to prick the sausages before cooking. Unlike traditional frying or grilling, air frying doesn’t require pricking because the hot circulating air cooks them evenly while keeping the juices locked inside, resulting in a juicier bite.

Cook the sausages for about 12 to 15 minutes, depending on their size and type. Remember to flip the sausages over or shake the basket halfway through cooking. So this will ensure even browning on all sides. For thicker, standard pork or beef sausages, aim for the full 15 minutes of cooking. Thinner sausages like chipolatas typically take around 10 to 12 minutes. If you’re cooking veggie or plant-based sausages, check them after 10 minutes as they tend to cook faster and can dry out if left too long.

To be absolutely sure your sausages are cooked through, use a meat thermometer if you have one handy. Pork sausages should reach an internal temperature of 75°C (167°F) to be safe to eat.

Serve your perfectly air-fried sausages hot, paired with classic sides like buttery mashed potatoes, baked beans, or stuffed into a crusty roll with your favourite toppings for a hearty meal.

Tips for Air Fryer Sausages

Cooking sausages in an air fryer is one of the easiest ways to enjoy juicy, crispy sausages with minimal effort and mess. Whether you’re a beginner or an air fryer pro, these tips will help you get the best results every time.

1. Preheat Your Air Fryer
Always preheat your air fryer for 2–3 minutes at 180°C (356°F). Starting with a hot air fryer ensures that your sausages begin to crisp right away, giving you that perfect golden-brown skin.

2. Don’t Overcrowd the Basket
Place sausages in a single layer with some space between each one. Overcrowding causes steaming rather than roasting, leaving the sausages soft and less appetizing. If you have a lot to cook, do it in batches.

3. Skip Pricking the Sausages
Unlike traditional frying, you don’t need to prick your sausages before air frying. Pricking releases juices that keep sausages moist, so leaving them intact ensures a juicy bite.

4. Adjust Cooking Time by Sausage Type
Standard pork or beef sausages usually take 12–15 minutes. Smaller sausages like chipolatas need 10–12 minutes, while plant-based or veggie sausages should be checked around 10 minutes as they cook faster.

5. Flip Halfway
Flip or shake the basket halfway through cooking to promote even browning on all sides and to avoid one-sided crispiness.

6. Check for Doneness
Use a meat thermometer to check sausages are cooked through as pork sausages should reach 75°C (167°F). If you don’t have a thermometer, cut into one to make sure the juices run clear and the meat is no longer pink.

7. Experiment with Flavours
Brush sausages with a little oil and your favourite seasonings before cooking. Try smoked paprika, garlic powder, or even a honey glaze for a delicious twist.
