Air fried mozzarella tarts

My air fried mozzarella tarts, with tomato and basil are the perfect appetiser with dinner or a party snack for buffet. These cheese bites are all about cheesy, crispy, crunchy deliciousness. These are super simple to make and are a perfect treat served warm or cold. Thanks to the air fryer there is no need for deep frying or excess oil. Which makes them a much healthier option. You could use goats cheese as an alternative to mozzarella if that suits your tastes better. Or if you already have that on hand. The combination of creamy cheese, juicy tomatoes, and aromatic basil creates a burst of flavour in every bite. Making them a hit at any gathering or a delightful addition to your family meals.

These air fried tarts are incredibly versatile and can be customised to suit your taste. If you prefer a different cheese, such as cheddar or blue cheese, feel free to substitute it in. You can also change up the herbs; for instance, fresh oregano or thyme can provide a delightful twist on the classic basil flavour.

Storing any leftover tarts is easy. Simply place them in an airtight container and refrigerate. They reheat beautifully in the air fryer, maintaining their crispiness. This makes them an excellent option for meal prep, as you can make a batch ahead of time and enjoy them throughout the week.

Ingredients

Store-bought puff pastry

1 egg, beaten for the egg wash

Fresh mozzarella cheese

1 tomato, sliced

Fresh basil leaves

Olive oil spray

To serve:

Balsamic vinegar

Rocket salad

Method

I rolled out my store-bought puff pasty and cut into two equally sized rectangles. Then I folded over the sides to make a barrier for my filling and brushed with a whisked egg wash. I popped on some mozzarella, sliced tomatoes and fresh basil leaves then sprayed with a little olive oil and popped them into my air fryer on 190c for 8 to 10 minutes. Finally, I served my air fried pastry tarts with a rocket salad and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar.

These air fried mozzarella tarts are not just limited to appetisers or party snacks. They can also make a delightful lunch or light dinner when paired with a hearty salad or a bowl of soup. Their simplicity and ease of preparation make them a go-to recipe for busy days when you want something delicious without spending too much time in the kitchen.

For a more indulgent version, try adding a drizzle of honey or a touch of truffle oil before serving. This adds a gourmet touch and enhances the flavours of the cheese and tomatoes. Additionally, you can cut the pastry into smaller pieces to make bite-sized versions, perfect for canapés or finger food at parties.
