Air fried sausage tarts

These air fried sausage tarts are such a fantastic recipe to use up left overs from the back of the fridge! Nothing has to go to waste when you are willing to experiment a little – which I always am – and these air fried mini sausage and red onion tarts are an absolute delight that you don’t want to miss out on. The crispy, flaky puff pastry contrasts beautifully with the savoury sausage filling, while the sweet caramelised red onion adds an extra layer of flavour. These little tarts are perfect as a snack, a party appetiser, or even a light lunch. Plus, they’re quick and easy to make, ensuring you can whip up a delicious treat in no time.

Essential kit

You will need: An air fryer, mixing bowl and cupcake size silicon moulds

Ingredients

2 sausages

1 roll of puff pastry

A red onion

1 egg

Method

I like to get my pastry out of the fridge an hour before I am due to use it. I tend to use shop brought pastry as it saves so much time.

While the pastry is getting to room temperature, I squeeze out the sausage meat from the skin and put it into a bowl.

When the pasty is ready cut out small circles, I always use a small bowl I have as a guide. Then pop each pastry circle into my silicon mould. Next slice the red onion and place a small amount into the bottom of each pastry cup.

I then spoon a teaspoon of the sausage mixture into each mould and flatten a little.

Egg wash the sides and place into the air fryer on 180c for around 15 minutes.

Once cooked, carefully remove the silicone moulds from the air fryer drawer and remove the air fried sausage tarts from the cases and place on a cooling rack.

These air fried sausage tarts are incredibly versatile. You can customise the filling with whatever leftovers you have on hand. Try adding some grated cheese, chopped herbs, or a dollop of mustard for extra flavour. The puff pastry provides a perfect blank canvas for your culinary creativity, allowing you to experiment with different ingredients and create your own signature tarts.
Whether you’re serving them at a casual gathering or enjoying them as a quick snack, these air fried sausage tarts are sure to impress. The combination of crispy pastry, savoury sausage, and sweet onion is a classic that never disappoints. Plus, using the air fryer means they cook evenly and quickly with minimal fuss.
