I had a friend over for lunch today so wanted to serve a little treat. I made broccoli and stilton soup in my slow cooker and topped these deliciously crispy air fried bacon toasties. The saltiness of the bacon was just scrumptious with the soup and just what was needed on a winter’s day. The combination of the creamy, savoury soup and the crispy, salty toasties made for a comforting and satisfying meal. Perfect for catching up with a friend.
These air fried bacon toasties aren’t just limited to soup toppings. They make fantastic snacks on their own or can be served alongside a variety of dips. Such as a tangy mustard or a creamy cheese dip. So if you’re hosting a party, consider making a platter of these toasties with a selection of different breads and fillings. Like adding a slice of cheese or a dollop of tomato relish inside each sandwich for an extra burst of flavour.
For a healthier twist, you could use wholemeal bread or even gluten-free bread to cater to dietary preferences. Additionally, turkey bacon can be used as a leaner alternative. And for vegetarians, you could try using a plant-based bacon substitute.
Storing leftovers is simple. Just place the toasties in an airtight container and keep them in the fridge. To reheat, pop them back into the air fryer for a couple of minutes until they regain their crispiness. These toasties are also great for meal prep, as they can be quickly assembled and cooked, making them a convenient option for busy days.
Essential kit
You will need an air fryer and wooden skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes.
Ingredients
6 rashers of streaky bacon
4 slices of white bread
Butter
Method
I air fried my 6 rashes of streaky bacon on 200c for around 5 minutes. Next I took the bacon out of the air fryer drawer and rested on the side. I then cut the crusts off 4 slices of white bread, saving the crusts for a crouton recipe later. Next I spread each slice of the bread with butter. I added the bacon to the non buttered side and cut the sandwiches into small squares. Then I placed each square onto a small wooden skewer and pop them all into your air fryer on 200c for 2 to 3 minutes.
Serve your air fried bacon toasties on the top of your soup, just like crotons but way tastier.
For a complete meal, serve your soup and toasties with a side salad or some roasted vegetables. This combination not only adds a variety of textures and flavours but also boosts the nutritional value of the meal. The versatility of these bacon toasties means they can be adapted for different occasions, whether it’s a casual lunch with friends or a sophisticated dinner party.
