This was my first time making air fryer spring rolls, and I’m so glad I decided to give them a go. We usually order them as a takeaway, but I thought, why not try making them at home in the air fryer? I’m thrilled with how they turned out – crispy on the outside with a perfectly seasoned filling on the inside. They were far healthier than the deep-fried ones we usually get, and the results were just as satisfying. The air fryer gave them that irresistible crunch without the extra oil, making them a guilt-free treat.
These air-fryer spring rolls are the perfect appetizer or snack for any occasion. The crisp, golden exterior pairs wonderfully with a cool and creamy raita dip, while the spicy, sweet chili jam adds an extra layer of flavour that complements the spring rolls perfectly. The combination of these dips elevates the overall experience, making each bite a delightful balance of textures and tastes.
What’s great about air fryer spring rolls is the versatility of the filling. You can experiment with different ingredients to suit your taste. Try adding finely chopped mushrooms, bean sprouts, or even cooked chicken or shrimp for a non-vegetarian twist. Feel free to adjust the spices too – ginger, garlic, or soy sauce can add an extra punch of flavour, allowing you to tailor the spring rolls to your liking.
If you’re making these spring rolls for a gathering, you can prepare them ahead of time. Simply assemble the rolls and keep them covered in the fridge until you’re ready to cook. This makes them an excellent option for parties or family dinners when you want to spend more time with guests.

MAKES 5 spring rolls
KIT you will need an air fryer and mixing bowl.
Ingredients for air fryer spring rolls
2 small carrots, grated
1 onion, peeled and grated
A handful of cabbage, finely sliced
2 teaspoons of curry powder
1 teaspoon of black mustard seeds
A clove of garlic, peeled and crushed
1 red chilli, finely chopped
Handful of dried coriander
salt and pepper
Method
I started by grating two small carrots and one onion, then finely sliced a generous handful of cabbage. These form the vibrant, crunchy base of the filling. Into the mix, I added two teaspoons of curry powder for warmth and flavour, a teaspoon of black mustard seeds for a subtle pop, one grated garlic clove, a chopped red chilli for a little heat, and a good handful of dried coriander. Then I seasoned everything with salt and pepper to taste. Once mixed together in a large bowl, I let the filling rest for about an hour to allow all the delicious flavours to meld.
Next, I rolled out some shop-bought filo pastry and cut each sheet lengthways to make two strips. Taking one strip at a time, I placed a spoonful of the mixture near the left-hand edge, then started rolling it up, carefully tucking in the sides as I went to create a neat little parcel. I kept a small bowl of water nearby to seal the edges as I rolled, which worked perfectly. Once all the rolls were formed, I gave them a light spray with oil and placed them into the air fryer basket.
Then I cooked the spring rolls at 180°C for about 15 minutes, checking and turning halfway to ensure they were evenly golden and crisp.
So once done, I carefully removed them and served with a cooling homemade raita and a dollop of sweet chilli jam. The perfect combination of crunchy, creamy, and spicy!
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge and reheated in the air fryer for a quick, crispy snack. These air fryer spring rolls are a lighter, healthier twist on a takeaway favourite, and they’re great fun to make. Perfect for a casual dinner or sharing platter.
Tips for Air fryer Spring Rolls
1. Use a Tight Roll
Roll the spring rolls snugly to prevent them from bursting open. Use a corn starch slurry or water to seal the edge if needed.
2. Don’t Overstuff
Keep fillings light (about 2 tablespoons max per roll) to prevent tearing and to help them cook evenly.
3. Chill Before Frying (Optional but Helpful)
Let your rolled spring rolls chill in the fridge for 15 to 30 minutes. This helps firm them up and makes them crispier when cooked.
4. Brush or Spray with Oil
Lightly coat the surface with neutral oil or cooking spray. This is key for that deep-fried look and crunch.
5. Preheat the Air Fryer
Preheat at 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes to ensure even crisping from the start.
6. Don’t Crowd the Basket
Leave space between rolls so air can circulate. This ensures even cooking and browning. Work in batches if needed.
7. Flip Halfway Through
Turn the spring rolls halfway through cooking to crisp both sides and avoid soggy bottoms.
8. Cook Time Guide
Fresh rolls (uncooked): 375°F for 10 to 12 minutes
Frozen store-bought: 390°F for 12 to 14 minutes (no need to thaw)
Adjust time based on size and your air fryer model.
9. Use Parchment or a Rack (Optional)
If your spring rolls tend to stick, use parchment with holes or a perforated air fryer tray to help airflow while preventing tearing.
10. Let Them Rest
Cool for at least 2 or 3 minutes after air frying. This lets them finish crisping and avoids steam burns when you bite in.
